About

Embodied Arts Project is an international school of Theater and Performance making.

Our vision places the body at the center and fosters an interdisciplinary approach to the Performing arts.

All our training activities are an invitation to explore our innate sense of playfulness, movement and creativity in a holistic manner that integrates body, space and imagination combined with a solid artistic and intellectual foundation.

The work at the school centers on a playful exploration of embodied knowledge, expression, and inquiry through various artistic disciplines such as theater, dance, music, writing, film and somatic practices. We pay special attention to the relationship we as humans establish with our living environment and the way we wish to create/be part of a community.

All our students come from a vast array of creative fields such as Acting, Directing, Choreography, Writing, Painting, Film making and Dance.

“It is necessary to look at how beings and things move, and how they are reflected in us.”

Jacques Lecoq

The core aspects of our pedagogy are:

Creativity and Playfulness

A vital aspect of any creative work is our innate sense of playfulness. We are born with a huge capacity to imagine, create and play.

In fact, in one way or another, we all share a playful nature with each other since we are born. We all play as children and as we grow older sometimes we begin to lose the spark, the spontaneity and the joy of playing like children.

We believe that a playful and dynamic approach to art and life is essential to any artistic project and because of that playfulness is a foundational aspect of our pedagogy.

Embodiment

We all exist in relationship to our surrounding environment and the way we relate to it and to others have a great impact in the way we experience life.

Jacques Lecoq, one of the most influential theater pedagogues of the 20 th century, would use an expression when he referred to embodiment. That isfaire corps avec”. Literally it translates as “to make body with” or to become one with. It is this sense of establishing a unique and singular connection with the world around us that is at the core of the practice of embodiment.

This practice explores the relationship between the human body in movement and fosters the discovery of all the dynamic structures of life in order to apply them in the creation of original work. It invites us to make links between movement and emotion, the physical body and the creative body.

Whether through gesture, sound, color, movement, each person is able to respond to their surroundings in a unique manner. It is the performative transposition of all these experiences that constitute the poetic essence of an embodied creative process.

Collaborative Creation

A cornerstone of our pedagogical approach is the creation of original work. Whether individually or collectively, each student is invited to explore and investigate multiple possibilities for the creation of their own work.

We offer a supportive creation space where opportunities for collaboration and exchanging ideas are possible. All the facilitators at the school are active and experienced artists themselves who guide all the collaborative processes.

By embracing the principles of collaborative creation and devised performance, all participants develop strong skills in teamwork, creativity, and artistic expression, preparing them for a diverse range of theatrical endeavors.

Performative Research

Performative Research is the space where ideas and concepts meet the very concrete reality of artistic practice. One could also think of it as the meeting space between theory and practice. The steady practice of critical thinking fosters an interdisciplinary approach to all creative activity and attempts to articulate stimulating dialogues across different practices/disciplines.

Performance praxis is a component that aims to open a space for critical reflection through a cross-disciplinary approach (discussions, movement laboratories, film discussions and site specific devising projects).

A thorough exploration of old and new artistic trends and practices provides all students a solid foundation in the world of performing arts from an array of perspectives (historical, socio-political aesthetical, philosophical).
